You Rock!

More feats of awesomeness from House of Sport Residents

Welcome to the second instalment in our monthly You Rock! series where we celebrate the great and wonderful things House of Sport Residents are getting up to.  This month we got chatting with someone hopping all over Great Britain…

Who are you and what do you do here at House of Sport?

Rose Chilton, I work at Sported, a Sport for Development charity which supports sports clubs, youth groups and small charities who are using Sport for social good. I work as Research and Analysis Manager which is all about demonstrating our impact, and supporting our member groups to demonstrate their own impact.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Creating resources (relating to data/impact measurement) for Sported members. Our member groups are often run by volunteers, so it’s all about making the resources very accessible. My favourite resources so far are our Capacity Measurement Tool; a survey which helps groups identify their strengths and areas for improvement. The other is our Data Collection Template, which automatically summarises participant data into tables and charts.

And the most challenging part?

I forget that not everyone enjoys Excel like I do!

Where can we find you at House of Sport?

Level 4, past Sported’s snack table.

We heard a rumour that you like a half marathon? And like doing them all over the country? How are you getting on with the challenge?

Apparently I do! Sported works across the UK so I decided to set myself the challenge of running a half marathon in each of the four nations. The Great Welsh Half Marathon and Edinburgh Half Marathon are under the belt, so now it’s just Northern Ireland and England.

The challenge has given me a lovely opportunity to meet up with my Sported colleagues in the Nations who I don’t see very often. My colleague in Edinburgh took us for cake the day before the race and on the day I knew he’d be there to greet me at the finish line!

So what have you got lined up next?

Belfast Half Marathon, 22nd September.

What does a typical training week look like for you?

Playing team sports! Ha! I’m not very good at run training. I rely on a base level of fitness, and maybe last minute do some slightly longer runs.

Have you always been in to running?

On and off.  A lot of my family like running so it’s hard not to join in with that at family gatherings. Then I guess I took it up more whilst living in Tanzania, because it’s what was on offer  (Kilimanjaro Half Marathon was pretty cool!).

What motivates you?

A cool location. Nice weather. That beer/ tea/ food at the end.

And what’s this we hear about Team 52?  Can you tell us a bit more about it?

It’s an online club/forum for setting and tracking physical challenges for yourself. The idea is to complete 52 challenges (big or small!) in a year – by yourself or as part of a team. They have loads of suggestions for challenges and also organise meet ups for various activities. Evan from Sported and myself took part in the New Year cold water dip (5c at Brockwell Lido) which is something I never would have done otherwise! You can see a photo at the top of this page!

What inspired you and Sported to get involved with Team 52?

Sported took part a few years ago when it was just starting out. I like it because there’s no challenge too big or too small – what matters is whether it’s a challenge for YOU! The Sported team (many of whom are based remotely around the UK) are coming together to collectively reach the 52 target.

Ok, quick fire round…

Road or Trail?

Trail.

Coffee or Tea?

Tea, constantly. A brief interlude for an 11am coffee.

Sports gel or banana?

Banana.

Netflix or iplayer?

Both!

Thank you to Rose for sharing all about Team 52 and your running challenges. You Rock!
