Keeping up with the community

House of Sport is built on the foundations of being a co-working space that supports our Residents, fosters a sense of community, of collaboration and on being a very physical space that encourages all of these things. We are proud of the friendly and supportive community that we have been able to create since our conception, and we are very much aware of how working from home poses a challenge for many of our Residents.

With the overwhelming absence of physical opportunities to feel part of the House of Sport community, now, we find ourselves trying to establish a temporary ‘new normal’. Many of us are already learning to adapt to new routines (like rolling out of bed at 08:59am to start work on the sofa at 09:00am). However, one thing is certain; staying connected is more important than ever. Because of this, we thought we would share some examples of how our Residents are keeping up with the community while social distancing.

Video Calling

Staying socially isolated does not mean that you have to cancel team meetings or a social chit-chat around the kettle.

Our Residents have been making the most of video conference calling software such as SkypeMicrosoft Teams and Zoom to maintain social distancing, and keep connected (wi-fi connections may vary).

Gaining new colleagues

Step aside Wilson. Our Residents have been fighting social isolation with the help of some new companions.

Social Media

Many of our residents have been sharing a range of engaging content and tips to keep their participants, staff and volunteers active and informed. From Girls Run The World‘s live workouts to Disability Sport Coach‘s challenges and activities!

Tech for good

While we are unable to host our regular sporting timetable of yoga, run club, box-fit and interval training, the House is still moving with a little help of technology!

During #StayInWorkOut, our Residents have been coming up with creative ways to stay active. To name a few…

  • Sharing images of their standing desks and fitness tips, like London Sport‘s very own Joe Wicks, a.k.a. Relationship Manager, Jolyon (shown left).
  • Motivating the community to keep active, RED January have formed #RedTogether.
  • Creating a tribe on Racefully to encourage walking or running together virtually in real-time.

While uncertain times are still upon us, one thing we know for sure is that we will continue to stay connected as #OneTeam.
